The Mexican national team had its most difficult test to pass against the surprising Venezuela, they needed a victory to get their group's first place and avoid Argentina in the quarter finals. But apparently Juan Carlos Osorio wanted to give minutes to some of the players who hadn't gotten a chance to play yet in this tournament. This speculation brought an early upsetting scenario, they received an early goal which changed the plans Osorio had completely.
It was an impressive over head kick goal scored by Jose Velazquez after a head pass from the right flank, this goal gave Venezuela the chance to manage the rest of the remaining 40 minutes of the first half. Juan Carlos Osorio needed to rethink his strategy, the key would be Jesus Manuel Corona, who took Aquino's place after the Tigres winger fell injured early in the first half. The coach needed to give his pupils a good pep talk during the break, they needed to get back in the game soon.
But during the second half, they wouldn't find the back of the net for the better part of the second half. It was until Chicharito got inside the field and opened up spaces to maneuver. This is what corona needed, his dribbling would be the answer for Mexico, fifteen minutes before the final whistle he swallowed Lionel Messi and scored one of the best goals of the championship. This 1-1 draw gave Mexico the first spot of Group C, and helped them avoid Argentina on the quarter finals. Chicharito attempted to get his record 46th goal, but the Venezuela defense was well organized and blocked all his attempts.
Another great dilemma for Osorio is the starting goalkeeper choice for the rest of the Copa, after giving minutes to all three goalkeepers and they all performed above an average level. However, the most important news of the day was Mexico getting Group C's first place with this draw. Corona proved that he is by far, Mexico's most lucid player with the ball at his feet, he does different things from the rest of his teammates.
