In the summer, AC Milan was eager to acquire a new centre defender. They were connected to Manuel Akanji of Manchester City. Even though they were close to hiring him, his salary demands were too high for them to meet. After failing to reach an agreement with Liverpool, the Rossoneri immediately turned their attention to Joe Gomez.

Although David Odogu from VfL Wolfsburg was eventually acquired by AC Milan, the Serie A powerhouses are still looking for a new central defender. They are prepared to return for Gomez's signature during the winter transfer window, according to a report from the Italian publication Milan Live. Joe Gomez, 28, has been with Liverpool since 2015 but has slipped down the pecking order under Arne Slot. Despite his contract running until 2027, he is open to a move for more game time. AC Milan came close to signing him on deadline day, but Liverpool ultimately blocked the transfer.
