It was just a matter of time before Milan took the lead, and sure enough, as the game's halfway point approached, they did. Rui Patricio nearly missed the incoming ball after Milan won a corner, and it fell into the path of an onrushing Pierre Kalulu who slipped by Roger Ibanez to put the ball in the goal and give Milan the lead.
For the remainder of the first half, Roma attempted to equalize, but it appeared that their situation was already hopeless. While neither team appeared particularly threatening in possession during the first half of the second half, Milan was undoubtedly the more formidable of the two teams. Nearing the 80th minute, the Giallorossi, trailing a goal, started to show some attacking purpose, creating multiple chances to try and score a goal.
