Aduriz nets five and makes Europa League history

Five goals are easy to pronounce, but scoring that amount in a single match is something that only a few talented players can achieve. Legendary strikers such as Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alfredo di Stefano or Radamel Falcao have all done it. But no one had accomplished this in a Europa League match. Well folks, Athletic Club's Aritz Aduriz just did it in a spectacular way.

Although he did get three of them from the spot, not every day you see someone actually scoring five goals in a game. This Thursday at San Mames, the Athletic fans could witness greatness and history in the making as Aduriz managed to fight off a brave Genk side that never gave up and kept the Lions always on the lookout for more goals. The final score sheet ended in 5-3.

Talking to beIN Sports, Aduriz said: "The team was there to support me, I'm no one without them. All I do is finish the plays but this is all about teamwork. We have stood firm and despite suffering quite a bit against Genk, we won against a great rival. My five goals are nothing but an anecdote, we needed three points in this Europa League and we are all very happy. As I said before, Genk is a great team.
