Al‑Owais keeps National Team door open

The uncertainty surrounding Mohammed Al‑Owais’ future with Saudi Arabia is beginning to settle, as new details clarify why the goalkeeper has been missing from recent squads. Although speculation grew about a possible international retirement, Al‑Owais has not stepped away from the national team, despite last appearing at the 2023 Gulf Cup in Kuwait.

His omission from the March camp raised further questions, but reports indicate he informed coach Hervé Renard after the Gulf Cup that he was not fully ready due to limited playing time at Al‑Hilal. Following his move to Al Ula, Al‑Owais reiterated his readiness and signalled openness to a comeback.

For now, the coaching staff prefers not to recall him, citing his extended absence from the national setup. Still, his track record remains strong: 57 caps, 55 goals conceded and 22 clean sheets, figures that underline his enduring value should a return materialise.
