Angola’s striker Akwá ends career at 45

Best scorer in the history of the Angolan national team, with 38 goals in 78 games, Fabríce Alcibíades Maieco (Akwá) 'hanged up his boots' at the age of 45, in the game between Nacional de Benguela and Desportivo da Lunda Sul, in the Angola Cup, six months after FIFA removed the sanctions that prevented him from officially exercising activities for 13 years, due to contractual breaches with Al-Wakrah, from Qatar.

The former striker's career was marked, among several moments, by the famous goal that qualified, for the first time, the Angolan team for a Football World Cup, the Germany 2006, after the Angolan team's victory over Rwanda, by 1-0 , in Rwandan territory, in 2005.

He began his career at Nacional de Benguela, a team in the Angolan second division.

He represented Petro de Luanda, in Girabola, after having played for several clubs in Europe, including Benfica, and Asia.
