It's still unclear is French winger Hatem Ben Arfa will end up becoming one of the greats in football, it's a little bit late in his career to start making assumptions such as that one. But there are many players who were late bloomers and started developing at a later stage of their career. At 29-years old, Hatem Ben Arfa will give becoming a world class star his last shot, he will attempt to do it with Paris Saint-Germain and he has everything to do it.
On the skill level, he has already proven to be one of the world's most spectacular dribblers, he has made magical displays that not even Neymar has been able to pull. This gives him the benefit of the doubt because the talent is there, he is one of the best out there. The thing is that he is living in a world dominated by Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, this turns the challenge into a nearly impossible task but that doesn't make him back away from it. Quite the opposite actually.
Talking to the press, Arfa revealed that he was very close to becoming a Sevilla player, but at the end, he decided to follow Emery to Paris: "It's true that I was very close to signing for Sevilla. But at the last moment, I had a discussion with the directors [of PSG]. They told me to think hard and that if I wanted to go and win the Champions League I should sign with PSG. The vision and ambition [of the club] made me change my mind. Winning the Champions League would be a great way of making history with PSG. I believe PSG can help me become one of the best players in the world."
Arfa also revealed that the interest from FC Barcelona was also true: "To be honest, the Barcelona rumor was true, the Atletico Madrid one wasn't, the Sevilla rumor was and the fact that I was going to sign for Sevilla is true."
