Arsenal defeated Southampton 3-1. After defeating Paris Saint-Germain handily in the Champions League, Arsenal was predicted to easily defeat Southampton, who had not won any games. However, ten minutes into the second half, Cameron Archer scored the first Premier League goal for the Saints since joining from Aston Villa, shocking the Emirates. Kai Havertz scored for his sixth straight home game in just three minutes, cutting the deficit. After an hour, Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench to make an impact with a strike on the volley from Bukayo Saka's cross in just eight minutes. Saka scored the third goal for Arsenal after assisting with the first two goals.
Southampton came dangerously close to answering, hitting David Raya's woodwork twice in a minute. The Gunners are still tied for second place with defending champions City and one point behind rivals Liverpool the current leaders.
