In the hope to bolster Arsenal’s squad during the winter break, Mikel Arteta is targeting Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as the Premier League side is set to lose Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny due to the Africa Cup of Nations. For a short duration, the team would only have two senior midfielders available to choose from and need to add more depth to the squad as the team also pushes for the Champions League title this season.
Arteta's young squad is fourth on the table and is set to lose Ainsley Maitland-Niles leaving just Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga available to choose from. Luiz was Arteta’s first choice for the position as the team also needs to find a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The North London club is keeping an eye on Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak, Fiorentina hot shot Dusan Vlahovic, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Luiz's team-mate, Ollie Watkins for the role.
