AS Monaco couldn’t withstand Lyon at Groupama Stadium

Lyon beat Monaco 2-0 to climb up to fifth place in the French league. Forward Karl Toko Ekambi scored an ice-cold late penalty, and central defender Jason Denayer added another near the finish. Even though he had only recently returned from international service, Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta swung a tight game in Lyon's favor with his brilliant passing as soon as he came on. In the 75th minute, Toko Ekambi held his composure and scored from a short run-up, sending goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel the wrong way.

Paqueta released former Chelsea left-back Emerson with a superb late ball, and Denayer couldn't mistake his low cross from just two meters out. Rayan Cherki, 18, was given a start upfront for Lyon after scoring three goals in two games for France Under-21s during the international break. He had a serious expression on his face.
