President Dmitry Rybolovlev saw AS Monaco's heartbreaking loss to Montpellier at the Stade de la Mosson, continuing their dismal run of defeats. Benjamin Lecomte, a former Monaco goalie, was there to stop Eliesse Ben Seghir's early shot that nearly put ASM ahead. Les Monegasques got off to a fast start against Ligue 1's worst team, with two more attempts from the Moroccan international and an opening from Mohammed Salisu after a set-piece. The home team's first attempt was then just missed by dangerous Montpellier forward Musa Al-Taamari.
Shortly after, Monaco took the lead thanks to a brilliant header from Thilo Kehrer, the host team quickly equalized when relegation-threatened Montpellier capitalized on a misdirected ball from Kassoum Ouattara, which Al-Taamari intercepted before scoring. Montpellier then grabbed a late victory via Al-Taamari’s second goal in the 82nd minute. Les Rouge et Blanc tried their hardest to rescue a point, but this match was not meant to be.
