After falling behind early, AS Roma defeated Fiorentina 2-1 on Sunday to claim the top spot in Serie A provisionally and leave the home team waiting for its first league victory of the year. Roma, looking for atonement following its 1-0 Europa League loss to Lille on Thursday, grabbed another three points despite a strong Fiorentina performance. Roma's four wins from five had put them among the title contenders.
Roma leads Inter Milan, who defeated Cremonese 4-1 on Saturday, AC Milan (who travel to Juventus later on Sunday), and Napoli (who visit Genoa) by three points with 15 points. With three points after six games, Fiorentina is in fourth place. Gasperini’s Roma had conceded just once in five league games, but Fiorentina struck first in the 14th minute when Hans Nicolussi Caviglia’s long ball found Moise Kean, who turned and fired into the top corner for his first goal of the season.
