Aston Villa defeated Fulham 1-0 thanks to a header from Youri Tielemans in the first half, maintaining their chances of playing in the Champions League the following season.
Unai Emery's team tied Nottingham Forest and Chelsea on points ahead of their weekend games when Tielemans, the standout player on the Villa Park field, climbed highest of all to power in John McGinn's corner in the 12th minute. At the beginning of the second half, Ollie Watkins missed a fantastic opportunity to double Villa's advantage and calm home crowds. This only made things worse minutes later when Ryan Sessegnon's volley sped past Emi Martinez. However, the goal was rightly ruled out as Sessegnon had clearly controlled the ball with his hand before finding the back of the net.
