Philippe Coutinho, a recent signing for Aston Villa, came off the bench to equalize as Manchester United lost a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Villa Park. Following an early long-range attempt, United midfielder Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring at Villa Park, due to a howler from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. With a goal that cannoned down from the crossbar midway through the second half, the midfielder increased his side's lead.

Jacob Ramsey, a Villa midfielder, ensured a tense last 15 minutes for United by linking up with Coutinho and hitting past rival goalkeeper David De Gea. Coutinho, who arrived on loan from Barcelona on Tuesday, then became Villa's hero on 82 minutes, connecting with a low cross from Ramsey at the back post and nudging home to save a point.
