Gianluca Scamacca gave Atalanta an equaliser early in the second half, but in his debut league game as manager, Ivan Juric's club was unable to create a winner. In the 26th minute, Isak Hien's own goal gave the newly promoted visitors the lead, and Atalanta, missing wantaway attacker Ademola Lookman, was unable to capitalise on their early domination. Even though Atalanta had 21 shots overall, they were unable to find another breakthrough until five minutes into the second half, when Scamacca finally displayed his talent with a well-controlled finish to equalise.
Atalanta failed to win its opening Serie A match of a season for the first time since 2017. Juric has big shoes to fill, with Gian Piero Gasperini having left for Roma, and will hope to see more clinical finishing when his team head to Parma next week.
