Atalanta defeated Empoli 3-2

Serie A leaders Atalanta defeated Empoli 3-2 thanks to two goals from Charles De Ketelaere, moving them two points ahead of Napoli at the top of the rankings.

Gian Piero Gasperini's club has won 13 home games this season, more than any other team in the top five leagues in Europe, thanks to a spectacular goal by De Ketelaere in the 86th minute. However, Atalanta fell down right away as Lorenzo Colombo scored his 10th away league goal of 2024 by finishing past Marco Carnesecchi. However, when Davide Zappacosta's teasing delivery identified De Ketelaere, parity was restored just after the half-hour mark as he left for home. Then, in stoppage time of the first half, Ademola Lookman, the newly awarded African Footballer of the Year, coolly scored from close range to give Atalanta the lead.
