Gian Piero Gasperini's 400th game as coach was celebrated by Atalanta, who thrashed Verona 6-1 in a spectacular performance that saw them go out to a five-goal lead in less than 30 minutes. Atalanta moved up to fourth place, tied with Juventus on 16 points, thanks to goals from Marten de Roon, Charles De Ketelaere, and doubles from Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui and Ademola Lookman. They also made up for Wednesday's dismal goalless draw with Celtic in the Champions League. De Roon gave the home team the lead in the sixth minute by hammering home Lookman's cross, then Retegui and De Ketelaere both curled in exquisite left-footed goals in the fourteenth minute, virtually ending the game.
Coach Paolo Zanetti was stunned on the bench when Lookman first went past three players and hammered home at the near post before tapping in Ederson's low cross in the 34th minute, giving Verona the treatment Celtic deserved.
