Ral Garca scored to make up for a missed penalty and lead Athletic Bilbao to a 1-0 victory over Alavés on a record-breaking night for teammate Inaki Williams. With his 203rd consecutive appearance at San Mamés Stadium, Williams set a Spanish league record.
After a lengthy video review, which revealed a handball by Ximo Navarro, Garca had a penalty saved by Alavés goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco in the ninth minute. Pacheco saved attempts by Iker Muniain and Williams around the half-hour mark to keep Alavés in the game against a powerful Bilbao. However, a minute before halftime, the goalkeeper did little to prevent Garca from heading home Iigo Lekue's poorly defended cross. Garca was free to nod home Lekue's long pass to the far post after Williams drew in two defenders.
