Athletic Bilbao defeated Rangers 2-0 at San Mames to guarantee a place in the Europa League semi-finals. The winning goals were scored by Nico Williams and Oihan Sancet. Sancet's penalty just before halftime gave Bilbao the lead, but the first leg at Ibrox finished in a stalemate. Williams then scored a late header to secure their victory. Rangers' season ambitions were crushed after they failed to make any headway under temporary manager Barry Ferguson. An unexpected Europa League triumph would be their sole hope of salvation. They failed to score despite a few encouraging moments, such as Nico Raskin's strike against the post. A late chance to score a consolation goal was wasted by Hamza Igamane.

Sancet had an early opportunity blocked by Ridvan Yilmaz, while Alex Berenguer narrowly missed another chance for Bilbao.
