Six minutes after entering the game, the substitute scored to move Diego Simeone's team up to fourth position in the La Liga standings. In the first half, Atletico had the best chance to score when Pablo Barrios set up Antoine Griezmann, but Sergio Herrera made an incredible reflex stop to keep him out of the game. As the home team continued to pose a danger in the second half, Barrios, Marcos Llorente, and Julian Alvarez all came very close. The breakthrough, though, came in the 69th minute when Giuliano Simeone pulled the ball back for Almada, another substitute, to put the finishing touch on it.
Jan Oblak came to Atletico's rescue later on, making a fine save to deny Ante Budimir as the hosts held out for all three points. Atletico have now won nine of their last 10 home meetings with Osasuna in LaLiga under Simeone.
