Atletico Madrid secured a 3-0 win over Girona

In their first home game of the La Liga season on Sunday, Atletico Madrid defeated Girona 3-0 thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente, and Koke.
When Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was given a yellow card for touching the ball outside of the area, Griezmann scored the first goal of the match in the 39th minute, sending his free kick into the bottom far corner. Three minutes after the interval, Llorente scored a solo goal and then doubled the lead with a strong long-range attempt. In stoppage time, captain Koke's tap-in completed the onslaught. In their league debut, Diego Simeone's team drew 2-2 with Villarreal to earn four points. On Wednesday, Atletico will host Espanyol, and the next day, Girona will play Osasuna.
