Atletico Madrid stumbled to a 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo

Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo after playing over half the game with 10 men following Clement Lenglet’s red card. Diego Simeone’s side, now fifth in La Liga, sit eight points behind leaders Real Madrid. A Carl Starfelt own goal gave Atletico the lead, but Iago Aspas — making a record-equalling appearance for Celta — bundled in the equaliser in the second half. Lenglet’s two bookings for fouls on Ferran Jutgla turned the tide, with Celta pressing hard but unable to find a winner.

Goalkeepers Ionut Radu and Jan Oblak both made key saves before half-time, while Simeone replaced Antoine Griezmann with Javi Galan at the break to shore up his 10-man side. The result ends Atletico’s three-match winning run, including last week’s 5-2 triumph over Real Madrid.
