The pain was too much to handle at moments, right after Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty for Real Madrid a whole world of doubts and pain came upon all the Atletico players. You could see Fernando Torres crying for the first time in his life, not even during seemingly tougher times did he ever show signs of a pain as great as this. But this is the club of his life, his Atleti. Same goes for skipper Gabi, who was just shaking his head as if he wanted to wake up from a horrible nightmare.
After the match, Gabi wasn't able to determine what went wrong but he was still very convinced that they will be able to win the trophy soon: "We have to be proud of this team. Starting tomorrow, we have to keep working. This is what is nice and cruel about football. The important thing is to be there and I am convinced that this team is going to come back to win a Champions League because it deserves it."
Saul was one of the saddest faces around, he has been one of Atletico's most important players throughout the season, he told reporters that: "I am proud of my team, of my fans, and I'm proud of being of Atletico de Madrid. I think that we have given our all and it's something that happens in football. They have won the match with the luck of the penalties. This dressing room does not deserve this to happen twice. It was a very intense game, we were all dead out there. Next season, we are ready for the Champions League, the league and everything but our ambitions are always on a game-by-game basis. [We will] fight for it [Champions League] until we get it."
