AZ claimed their second Johan Cruyff Shield with a commanding 4–0 victory over PSV, outclassing the league champions in Sunday’s season opener. PSV boss Peter Bosz surprised with his lineup, handing debuts to Noah Fernandez at left‑back and Amir Bouhamdi on the wing, while Sven Mijnans faced his former club. AZ, with new goalkeeper Jari De Busser, set up in a compact five‑man defence and quickly gained control after Joey Veerman was sent off for a studs‑up challenge on Mexx Meerdink.
Meerdink then headed in the opener from a deflected Mateo Chavez cross. PSV struggled to threaten, and AZ struck again five minutes after the break when Weslley Patati curled home a counter‑attack.
