In a stunning KNVB Beker Round-of-16 matchup, AZ Alkmaar humiliated Ajax 6-0, mirroring last season's knockout result perfectly. The visitors’ nightmare began instantly when goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros mishandled the ball, allowing Troy Parrott to score the opener within two minutes. Parrott soon doubled the lead, punishing Josip Sutalo’s misjudgment of a long ball from goalkeeper Owusu-Oduro. Before half-time, Peer Koopmeiners effectively sealed the outcome with a third goal.
The rout continued immediately after the break through highly-rated talent Kees Smit. Ajax’s misery deepened when former AZ defender Owen Wijndal received a straight red card. Parrott coolly completed his hat-trick, later also setting up Ibrahim Sadiq for the sixth. This historic thrashing equals Ajax’s joint-biggest defeat, matching the 6-0 loss to Feyenoord in 2024. For the second consecutive year, AZ has knocked out the 20-time cup winners, handing them a crushing defeat of historic proportions ahead of the Friday quarterfinal draw.
