It was destined to be a sad evening for all the Barcelona fans, the atmosphere felt off and starting with the news of Luis Suarez and Leo Messi starting on the bench, things were already somewhat negative. The feeling was general when the first few minutes saw how Alaves started attacking more than Barcelona, Neymar wasn't able to connect with midfielders Ivan Rakitic, Arda Turan or Denis Suarez. The upset was something prone to happen during the first half, it came pretty soon.
Deyverson started the major upset after he connected with a cross coming from the right, he anticipated perfectly and got the first goal of the night. The first half ended with this momentary result, but it took Barcelona only two minutes into the second half to equalize the game through Mathieu's header during a corner kick. Things seemed to go smooth for the Catalan club, but they needed Messi to come in and fix things, score the winner or something of the likes.
Four minutes after Leo got on the field, Gomez scored the winning goal after a horrible Mathieu mistake in which he wasn't able to clear the ball properly. Andres Iniesta and Luis Suarez got on the field soon after that, but their entrance wasn't going to make a difference. Barcelona lost their first match of the season but hey, better now than by the end of the season right?
