Barcelona leapfrogged defending champion into fourth place

Barcelona took down Atletico Madrid to grasp the last Champions League spot after the six-goal thriller. Xavi Hernandez's side finally cracked their way in the top four for the very first time this season after September. Barcelona leapfrogged Atletico with a two points lead. Dani Alves made a comeback to Barca’s lineup during the winter window and scored his first goal in the second debut.

Jordi Alba also featured on the scoresheet as La Liga beats the defending champions 4-2. Barcelona enjoyed the emphatic win as they scored four goals in just 40 minutes of work at Camp Nou. Colchoneros staged a late fightback as well with Luis Suarez after their early lead with Yannick Carrasco’s goal was cancelled with Alba’s volley. Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Alves all wreaked havoc on Simeone’s side as they slipped down the table.
