Harry Kane's two goals helped Bayern Munich defeat Chelsea 3-1 to start their Champions League campaign. Cole Palmer's outstanding goal for Chelsea was insufficient at the Allianz Arena, where Kane scored twice before halftime. Trevoh Chalobah unintentionally diverted a Michael Olise cross into his own net in the 20th minute, giving Bayern the lead.
Seven minutes later, Kane converted a penalty he had been awarded following a foul by Moises Caicedo to double Bayern's lead. Bayern kept control even after Palmer's incredible goal in the 29th minute gave Chelsea a swift response. Robert Sanchez made vital saves against Olise and Kane as Bayern ramped up their onslaught after the break. Kane secured his second goal after being set up by Serge Gnabry, restoring Bayern's two-goal lead. Palmer thought he had set up an exciting finish with another goal, but it was ruled out for offside. This marked Chelsea's first Champions League match since 2023, ending in defeat.
