A historic third-place finish for Belgium in Russia was forged largely off the back of a quarter-final win over Brazil.
The first goal from the Red Devils in their 2-1 win over Brazil came about as a result of a fortuitous event, Vincent Kompany revealed to Belgian public broadcaster RTBF.
"The day before, I couldn't sleep so I took a pill but I forgot to put the alarm clock on". City man asked assistant coach Thierry Henry to summarise what had been discussed.
"I told him I had seen their coach with Guardiola at our training complex in Manchester. They copy exactly what we do at City, so I know the weakness of the system" Kompany said.
Kompany, who hit the ball for an own goal by Fernandinho, attributed his deciding run to the talk he had with Henry as a result of that sleeping pill of the night before.
