Benfica have reached an agreement with Marco Silva to become their next head coach, according to journalist Sasha Tavolieri. The Portuguese manager, currently at Fulham, has long been admired by the Lisbon club, and negotiations accelerated once Silva made clear his desire to return to Portugal and lead one of the country’s biggest teams. The deal is now in place, with only final formalities remaining before an official announcement expected in the coming days.

The move comes as José Mourinho edges closer to a return to Real Madrid, where he is reportedly set to sign a contract running until 2028 with an option for an additional year. Benfica’s hierarchy acted quickly to secure Silva, viewing him as the ideal successor to guide the team into a new cycle. His arrival would mark a significant shift in direction as the club prepare for Mourinho’s imminent departure and the challenges of the upcoming season.
