During the draw for the Champions League semifinals two weeks ago, every single team in the ceremony was hoping to avoid Atletico Madrid. They didn't just eliminate the current champions Barcelona, they Colchoneros have also turned into one of Europe's most feared teams of the past five years that have a well organized and defined style of football. The always rocky rival that takes the rule book to the limit, they know their weaknesses but pray on the rival's defects as well.
Manager Diego Simeone has managed to convince every single player he has, that Atletico can always make any rival suffer despite apparently having a team with a much lower level of football. But this according to Spanish left winger Bernat, is where Diego Simeone brilliance lies. His capacity to convince everyone that they are not as good as they really are, is what keeps surprising everyone. But neither Bernat not Pep Guardiola are fooled by this mirage.
Talking to Marca on an exclusive interview, the Spaniard analyzed Simeone's side: "Atletico are very good at what they do. They leave practically no space and make you play in a way that leaves you exposed, which is a problem because they have very good, fast players. Of the three teams we could have faced, they are the most difficult. They don't stop running during the entire 90 minutes, they're aggressive and move together as one, pressing together,"
The player also praised Diego Someone for everything he has done in the past five years with Atletico, if it wasn't for the Argentine, they wouldn't be considered as one of the best teams in Europe right now: "It's incredible what Cholo [Diego Simeone] has done. We defend in our own style, with the ball at our feet. If you have it, they can't score. We also have Neuer, who is an incredible goalkeeper. Whatever the situation, we believe we have a great team capable of playing our game and getting the result."
