Betis continue their climb up the table with Espanyol rout

Real Betis cement their place in La Liga with a 4-1 win at Espanyol. This is the team’s third back-to-back win across competition as they keep the third place on the league table to themselves despite tough competition. Betis had to overcome an early deficit as the hosts went one goal up early in the game with Raul de Tomas’s help. Visitors then relied on Borja Iglesias to score twice and Guido Rodriguez and Willian Jose to add their single goal as well on the scoresheet to win with a good margin.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side closed in the gap to second-placed Sevilla to five points, they would host Celta Vigo on Saturday. Betis is still nine points adrift of leaders Real Madrid, who would take on Elche on Sunday. But both the teams need to fear Betis who are fast becoming the hottest team in La Liga with a 14-3 opponent beating in the past five matches. Espanyol is left 11th on the table.
