In a thrilling match on Saturday, Real Betis twice overcame from behind to secure a 2-2 draw, costing La Liga leaders Barcelona two points in the fight for the championship. The second-place winners Real Madrid, who visited Girona late last night and have another game coming up, are now five points behind the Catalans.
After 39 minutes, Robert Lewandowski gave Barcelona the lead, but Assane Diao tied the score in the 94th minute to shock them. Prior to Diao's late intervention, substitute Ferran Torres appeared to have won the game when Giovani Lo Celso tied the score for the mid-table hosts with a penalty kick. Barca made the breakthrough with a brilliant team play just before halftime when Lewandowski hit a low shot from close range, making it his 16th league goal of the season. But Manuel Pellegrini's team maintained composure and ultimately equalized with a penalty after Barcelona goalkeeper Pena produced a brilliant save to stop Chimy Avila.
