With two goals from Giorgos Masouras, Bochum defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to increase their chances of surviving and give BVB their second straight loss under new head coach Niko Kovač.
Dortmund, who were hoping to improve their fortunes under new coach Kovač, visited Bochum, who were struggling to avoid relegation, in a game that was crucial for both teams. When Masouras completed a play that Philipp Hofmann had started in the 33rd minute, the impasse was finally broken. Masouras increased Bochum's lead two minutes later, taking advantage of a defensive blunder by Niklas Süle to slip past Kobel and throw the home fans into a frenzy. Dortmund attempted to rally in the second half but the visitors found it difficult to generate clear-cut opportunities against Bochum's tight defense, even though they dominated possession.
