Together with mounting injury lists, both teams were contending with the combined demands of playing in both the Champions League and Serie A. Although Nicolò Cambiaghi, Oussama El Azzouzi, Lewis Ferguson, and Tommaso Pobega were there, Vincenzo Italiano managed to secure his first victory at Monza last week. In addition to Giorgio Scalvini, Gianluca Scamacca, Rafael Toloi, and Isak Hien sitting out due to an adductor ailment, La Dea lost three of their five Serie A games.

In the first few minutes, Riccardo Orsolini should have passed for the striker, but Berat Djimsiti charged down his effort, and Santiago Castro's diving header went wide. After Charles De Ketelaere's through pass had sent Ademola Lookman away, Lukasz Skorupski produced an incredible reaction stop with his extended foot.
