Brazilian legend Carlos Alberto dies at age 72

Sad news for all football fans out there, one of the sports' brightest lights has stopped shining this Tuesday as mythical Brazilian great Carlos Alberto passed away due to a heart attack. The response to this event from all world football was fast to appear on social media, but perhaps the most painful love demonstration came from Pele's Twitter account who bid farewell to his good friend who ceased to exist at age 72.

Carlos Alberto was the skipper of what can still be considered the greatest national team in football history, even more spectacular than that Spain from recent years. That team won the 1970 World Cup practically without breaking a sweat and got to do it with a veteran Pele who was the absolute leader of this team, but Carlos Alberto was the skipper and the man everybody listened to, even Pele himself.

Pele's statement read the following: "I am saddened by the death of my friend and brother Carlos Alberto, our dear 'Capita'. I remember the times we were together in Santos, the Brazilian national team and the Cosmos, forming a winning partnership. We were champions for Santos, the Selecao and the Cosmos. Unfortunately we have to understand this and that life goes on. To his family I send my condolences."

The Brazilian Federation also wrote: "With a heavy heart, the CBF regrets that the world of football had been surprised this Tuesday by the passing of Carlos Alberto Torres. A legend for the Brazilian national team, the captain of the third World Cup title in 1970 died in Rio de Janeiro, a heart-attack victim. The CBF president, Marco Polo del Nero, has declared three days of mourning. Flags at the CBF will be at half-mast. All games in competitions organized by the CBF will have a minute of silence."

The Capita was a player who always was beloved by the three main fan bases in Brazil, he was one of the few players who got to wear the shirts of Santis FC, Fluminense and Flamengo. Every single fan from all three clubs, considers him a legend and will remember him forever. But his greatest highlight was his career with Brazil without question. May you rest in peace Capitá.
