BREAKING: Michel Platini to step down as UEFA president

This Monday, the Court of Arbitration and Sport (CAS) has ruled that Michel Platini's previously held 6-year ban from FIFA, is to be reduced to 4 years. The CAS has also reduced his fine from CHF 80,000 to CHF 60,000, but this ruling has deeply disappointed Platini, who has ordered his legal team to give a statement to the press about his future.

"Michel Platini announces that he will resign as president of UEFA at the organization's next congress," said the statement coming from his legal team.

Platini had taken the case to CAS back in February and denied any wrong doing after he was accused of a €1,6 million 'disloyal payment' made by then FIFA president Sepp Blatter. At first he was given an 8-year ban from all football activity, but after looking at his case thoroughly they decided to reduce it to six years back in February. In this latest ruling, Platini was expecting the charges to completely drop and the ban to be annulled. But since they just reduced it again, he has decided to completely step out of the organization.

More news are developing on this matter, they will be reported here as they keep breaking.
