As Japan forward Kaoru Mitoma delivered a contender for Premier League goal of the season on Friday, Enzo Maresca acknowledged that Chelsea's dreadful 3-0 loss at Brighton was the "worst performance" of his tenure. At the Amex Stadium, Maresca's unfortunate team lost for the second time in seven days without managing to produce a shot on goal.
Last weekend, Brighton defeated Chelsea 2-1 to eliminate them from the FA Cup fourth round, with Mitoma scoring the game-winning goal. This time Gambia winger Yankuba Minteh scored on each side of the break, and Maresca once again tortured the Blues with an incredible display of ability in the first half. Brighton has only won two of their previous 12 top-flight games before losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest in their most recent league fixture.
