Celtic FC has faced a significant crisis following the unexpected resignation of its coach Brendan Rodgers, as the team slipped to second place in the Scottish Premiership, eight points behind Hearts.
Rodgers' resignation came after disagreements with the club's management regarding transfer policy and the failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The newspaper pointed out that Celtic's management had offered Rodgers a contract extension last June to reaffirm their confidence in his project, but he preferred to think it over and later decided to leave, a move that Desmond described as a betrayal of the club.
Following his departure, The Sun confirmed that Australian coach Ange Postecoglou has become the leading candidate to succeed him, having topped the list of names proposed for a return to Celtic, the club he previously led to five titles during his first term, including three domestic titles in his second season.
