Chile exterminates Mexico and goes to semifinals

After filling every single Mexican fan with hope, the national team proved once again that their actual game level is way below all the South American teams. They gave arguably their worst performance in the last couple of years against the current Copa America champions, this Mexican side is nowhere near the one that everybody in the Mexican press was attempting to sell to the fans and the rest of the world. The massacre started early on the first half, Juan Carlos Osorio used players who can't be considered as national team material from the start.

The inclusion of Dueñas on midfield was the manager's first mistake, Chile wen't from worst to world class in just a few matches of the Copa America. Early on the 16 minute, it was youngster Puch who got the first goal for Chile after Guillermo Ochoa deflected a long distance shot. A minute before half time, Alexis Sanchez started his personal show alongside Eduardo Vargas, two of this Copa America's best player no doubt. Vargas scored his first of the night after an Alexis assist.

But the real scandal started early in the second half, it was as if manager Osorio told them to play the worst game of their lives. Chile got over excited with a wounded Mexico who didn't even try to get back in the game. Four minutes into the second half, Alexis got the third after a Vidal assist after a distracted Hector Herrera lost a ball near his own goal. Three minutes later, Vargas scored after an Alexis assist and five minutes later Vargas got his hat-trick. All the Mexican fans at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara California were devastated, they started asking them to end the match to stop the battering.

With 5-0 already in the score line, the Chilean National team wanted more and in another counter attack fifteen minutes from the end, Vargas got a rebound and got his fourth goal of the night. This goal turns him into the top scorer of the tournament with 6 goals. The massacre continued with another counter attack goal, Mexico was already completely defeated and had no intention of keep playing. Youngster Puch got his second goal of the night and seventh for Chile, this result gives the current Copa America Champions their direct ticket to semifinals where they will face Colombia.
