Cole scored first ever FA Cup goal at 38 years old but suffered elimination

The FA Cup tie between Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County saw veteran English full-back Ashley Cole net in the competition for the first time in his illustrious career.

Under the management of his former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard, who is the current coach of Derby, Cole made his 49th appearance in England's oldest domestic cup but it ended in defeat.

His side lost the encounter 2-1 with goals from Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia, with Cole scoring in the 81st minute to narrow the deficit.

Cole has won the competition seven times in his career, three times for Arsenal and four times for Chelsea, and has appeared in the FA Cup in 14 out of his 15 seasons playing in English football.

It was the defender's first goal back on English soil since returning home after two years in the United States playing for LA Galaxy in MLS.
