Copa America Centenario: Argentina vs Chile preview

This will be Argentina's third attempt at a final, they say third time is a charm but we'll see how it goes. After not being able to defeat the Chilean team in last year's Copa America final celebrated in Chile, the Argentina national team had a major disappointment, the second one in a row. Now that they have reached a new final, they are not even expecting to win or lose, they are just happy that they have managed to reach another one. The Chile national team will attempt to defend their title from last year on this time, it will be in a neutral area.

Messi knows, that this time things are very different, you could say that he has the support of the local crowd because of how big a player he is around the world. But Chile has seemed a bit too overpowered this time around after demolishing Mexico 7-0 and beating Colombia with relative ease. However, Argentina is also a very powerful team and look to have evolved compared to its last two versions of the past couple major tournaments. Leo told the press that:  "We know Chile, it is a very complete national team and therefore is again in the final. We must forget about the end [and] that we could not win and think that we have a new opportunity."

Argentina will have several injured players that will miss the final. to Angel Di Maria's loss due to a muscular injury, we can add Nicolas Gaitan who hasn't recovered yet and Ezequiel Lavezzi who suffered a nasty shoulder injury during the last semifinal against the US. Their place will most likely be taken by Tottenham Hotspur's winger Erik Lamela. The Chilean side on the other hand, will count with a full squad for this final after Arturo Vidal served his suspension in the semi-final against Colombia.

Manager Pizzi is expecting a very complicated final after losing the first match of this tournament against Argentina: "We arrived [for the final] in very good shape. We are strong. While we have some casualties, most are able and they must prepare for the game. They must respect the opponent, but they must compete and win."

Possible lineups:

Argentina starting lineup (4-3-3 formation): Romero; Mercado, Otamendi, Funes Mori, Rojo; Fernandez, Mascherano, Banega; Messi, Higuaín, Lamela.

Chile starting lineup (4-3-3 formation): Bravo; Isla, Medel, Jara, Beausejour; Aranguiz, Vidal, Hernandez; Fuenzalida, Vargas, Sanchez.
