Copa America Centenario: Brazil vs Ecuador preview

As part of Group B, the first Saturday match in the ongoing Copa America Centenario will have Brazil clashing against Ecuador. The five times World Champions won't have Neymar with them because Brazil's most important objective this summer is to win the Olympic Games' Gold Medal, an achievement they haven't been able to accomplish yet. The venue will be PAsadena's Rose Bowl, a historic place where they became World Champions back in 1994 against Italy.

But not even the fact that they will play there might help the Brazilians during this Copa America, because among the other absentee players we have defender Thiago Silva who is injured, Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa who got injured right before the tournament, and Kaka who was going to take Costa's place but also fell injured a few days ago. Their place has been taken by Lucas Moura who plays in PSG.

Manager Dunga agreed taht they will miss Neymar, but they have to overcome the adversity: "Obviously we'd like to have Neymar here, but this is a top team. Some of them are very young, but they have quality. This is an opportunity for these players to show they deserve to be on the first team."

Their rivals Ecuador, are expected to get through to the next round alongside Brazil in Group B, but are considered as the main favorites of this group due to the Brazilians' not having many of their key players. Gustavo Quinteros from Ecuador said this about the field at the Rose Bowl: "The pitch was in bad shape. [On Wednesday] we found it filled with water, so we could not train. The FEF [Ecuadorian Football Federation], on its own, is seeking another pitch for rent and we can meet the work schedule privately. Unfortunately we had to change everything planned. This will not affect the preparation of the players, but it bothers us."

Possible lineups:

Brazil starting lineup (4-2-3-1 formation): Alisson; Alves, Marquinhos, Luis, Miranda; Casemiro, Elias; Willian, Coutinho, Gustavo; Hulk

Ecuador starting lineup (4-2-3-1 formation): Dominguez; Ayovi, Paredes, Erazo, Achilier; Noboa, Arroyo; A. Valencia, Montero, Mena; E. Valencia
