On a crucial day for the relegation struggle, Mainz defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-0 to move out of the Bundesliga's bottom three. At kickoff, Mainz, who had secured a relegation playoff spot, surprised the visiting team by scoring three goals in the first twenty-three minutes of play.
