Eden Hazard, the Belgium star made his first league appearance of the season. He made it superbly by scoring his first initial goal. It was before Karim Benzema doubled the lead at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Federico Valverde scored the third goal. Before David Ferreiro's consolation, Valverde looked hyper-focused throughout his hour on the pitch. After some fine interplay between Benzema and Hazard, Benzema scored the fourth goal.

The center of attraction was Benzema in much of the pre-game talk. And, there was a recording of him telling  Ferland Mendy not to pass to Vinicius Junior with Borussia Monchengladbach during the Champions League draw.
