Egypt make history with first World Cup victory

Egypt claimed their first-ever World Cup victory with a 3-1 comeback win over New Zealand in Vancouver, a result that puts them on the brink of reaching the knockout stage for the first time. The match began poorly for the Pharaohs as Finn Surman rose to head New Zealand in front after fifteen minutes, but Egypt responded with growing authority.

Mostafa Zico levelled before halftime, guiding in Mohamed Hany’s precise cross to restore belief. The turning point arrived in the second half when Mohamed Salah combined neatly with Zico and curled a trademark left-footed finish into the far corner. The captain then turned provider, delivering the cross that substitute Trezeguet nodded low to secure the result. Salah hailed the passionate Egyptian support, calling the win a historic moment. With four points, Egypt now top Group G and need only a draw against Iran on Friday to reach the last sixteen.
