During the Europa League final where Sevilla lifted the trophy and defeated Liverpool, full-back Alberto Moreno was one of the most criticized players of the game. Many Liverpool fans went after him on social media, even some famous personalities like Jamie Carragher were vicious towards him for allowing so many space in all three goals that Sevilla scored and losing so many balls. But Moreno just had a bad day like any other person can have, Sevilla manager Unai Emery believes it was unfair how they treated him.
The Sevilla coach came out in Moreno's defense during the press conference after the match: "Alberto Moreno is playing a great season for Liverpool. And what I have seen is he is playing at a level that he can go back to the Spanish national team. I always see the glass half-full because he has a great offensive ability and I see him as a great offensive player rather than being a poor defender."
About his choice of making the switch of Mariano and Coke for the match, Emery also bragged about being right all along: "Everyone here, raise your hand if you haven't criticized [Sevilla right-back] Mariano and Coke swapping. Thank God I don't listen or pay attention to what's said out of the club because otherwise I wouldn't have done it and eventually it worked out pretty well."
Emery is already thinking about the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona and talked about a possible permanent contract with the club: "Now have another final versus Barcelona on Sunday which is really exciting and we are very motivated. Many people [supporters] that couldn't be here are looking forward to this final. It'll be a huge challenge - it's Barcelona. I am very happy here at the club. As long as Sevilla wants me we are preparing for the present and future. I work thinking I am going to stay my whole life but I know how football works. I don't know what is going to happen."
