Champions Napoli were defeated 1-0 at home by Empoli midfielder Viktor Kovalenko in a dramatic late goal on Sunday, denying them the opportunity to climb to third place in the rankings. In stoppage time, Kovalenko, a Ukrainian, scored the game-winning goal from within the box after the ball rebounded in off the far post.
Giovanni Simeone gave Napoli, who were still without injured striker Victor Osimhen, the lead in the 27th minute, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
