Empoli drew 1-1 with Lecce at home on Monday, extending the visitors' Serie A losing streak to ten games. It was Lecce's fourth consecutive draw, and it advanced to 17 points, five ahead of Empoli, who is one spot above the relegation zone.
Lecce may have won after taking the lead in the 64th minute owing to a goalkeeping blunder by Etrit Berisha. Zambian winger Lameck Banda tried his luck from nearly 30 meters away, and although appearing to pose little danger, the attempt rebounded just in front of Berisha and between his legs. Empoli, on the other hand, responded seven minutes later with an equally lucky goal. Defender Hamza Rafia extended his leg to block a right-wing cross, but the ball struck his knee and bounced in over his own keeper.
