In the Coppa Italia, Empoli made waves when they defeated Torino, the current league leaders in Italy, 2-1 on the road, eliminating them from contention before the Round of 32.
After five games, Empoli, who has also had an unexpected start to the Serie A season, is presently tied for fifth place with nine points with Juventus.
